My students need tubano drums to demonstrate skills of improvisation, composition, and instrument technique.

We are reigniting a music program at a school committed to educate the whole child through math, science, literacy, and the arts. As a music program in its revival, we need materials that are essential to the highest quality music education for every student.
Students at our school are eager to make music.
The music program is process-focused to encourage every child to discover the skills and knowledge needed to develop independent musicianship. We are building our performing arts programming by adding music to the existing drama and visual art programs (a music teacher's dream!) Our music programming will add to the school's existing rigorous curriculum and encourage every child to use divergent, creative thinking. We are a public school that serves a diverse population; students come from many parts of our city and range in cultural and social-economic backgrounds. Music classes are a place where all ideas and creativity are shared and encouraged!
In order to better serve our students, I am humbly requesting two tubano drums that are essential resources in our music-making. These drums will greatly impact our students' development in music as they are the tools essential for collaboration, improvisation, rhythm and beat development, and composition. Tubano drums provide students with necessary tools to develop instrument-playing technique as they create with peers. Tubanos are also made for are easily tuned, portable, and made for extensive use for musicians of all ages and abilities! These tubanos will be the first of our classroom collection and allow students to explore music from Africa and the Caribbean while also developing original compositions!
Fulfillment of this project will positively affect the music education of every child in our school.
School drums will give our students the opportunity to play and create. Overall, fulfillment of this project contributes to our school goal to prepare students for college and beyond through successful participation in a rigorous music curriculum in a joyful, welcoming learning environment.
