Hello! I am the STEM teacher, and I teach children from Pre-K to 5th. I am looking forward to introducing the world of STEM to my students. It is so exciting to be teaching these children how to be real-world problem solvers using 21st-century skills. My students are 39% ELL. This is the first time in school for many of these students from other countries.
I also have an ICT class for each grade and a horizon, which is an 8:1:1 program for autistic children (K to 3) as well as three 12:1:1 (K to 4).
My school is also a Title I school, which qualifies 97% of the students for free lunch based on their economic status.
My Project
My first grade students are in a light and sound unit. They have to solve a problem for a shadow puppet theater. The problem I'm having is many of the students are not familiar with shadow puppets or a puppet show.
I would like to give them an opportunity to create their own puppet show to get a grasp on how a shadow puppet theater works before they attempt to solve the problem presented in the unit.
I think these tabletop shadow puppet theaters are just what they need to not only understand how it works but to also give them the chance to work in a group.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
