Having taught in Detroit for more than twenty years, I've had the pleasure of servicing many families and their young girls. Students come eager to learn. However dauntingly the task, teaching skills for life to support their development are necessary to be successful.
Times have changed, except the eagerness of middle school students that want to be ready to present themselves as highschool students.
That's where "Sewing with a Twist" comes into play. The skills they'll learn, will be useful throughout the lifes of these young people!
This special class I offer to middle school students, will help prepare them to present a polished Best Self! To learn to sew and experience the dynamics of social ediquett, will help them in many ways to build self confidence. The sessions are filled with all the creative aspects of sewing, and outfits to wear for different occasions; all while exploring how to be a mindful young lady.
Your gift will help support students with the materials needed to learn the lost skills of sewing and social ediquett.
My Project
The sewing table and notions will be used to assist the learners in acquiring sewing skills to enhance their ability to design and care for their clothes.
The skills they will learn, are useful in many aspects of the personal and social stages of interacting with others.
After being taught how to sew on a button, hem pants, and fix a rip; these students will be ready to interact with others in a more mindful meaningful conversation, where ever they are.
These students will be prepared to pass on to higher levels of learning with confidence, and self-determination to be their best selves!
