This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The Resource Classroom is a space where students can come to request support in any area where they are struggling, both academically and personally. We have created an arts department, Art Ability, for our Special Education Department.

Students who enter the classroom space are a part of the Special Education program, they are in need of additional supports that enable them to learn and be successful in school.

Their resilience is showcased every day as they continue to come to our campus to learn and create. Our students are not afraid to ask for support and are on the path of becoming advocates for themselves and others.

The ArtAbility Department at RASOTA is a one-of-a-kind program that lives at the heart of our school’s mission: to foster access, inclusion, and engagement with the arts for all students.

ArtAbility is a specialized arts course designed to meet the unique needs of students receiving special education services. Our inclusive, process-focused department celebrates creativity, self-expression, and skill-building through a wide range of craft and fine art experiences. ArtAbility emphasizes creativity over perfection, collaboration over competition, and exploration over limitations.

ArtAbility has been working extremely hard this semester. We have been learning from our partners at SCRAP about sustainable textile practices. Our students have learned to sew and repurpose materials by upcycling them. We have been turning creative ideas into wearable, expressive art.
