Sewing Machines Make Sewing Club Happen

Help me give my students four sewing machines for opportunities to learn practical skills while exploring the satisfaction of a popular hobby! We are going celebrate National Hobby Month of with some sewing this January.

My Students

Our elementary school is a public school that serves families in Alaska. Our program includes a Chinese immersion track and a neighborhood track. Our school community is diverse, and we have many students who are new to the United States. Our students work hard and they are excited to learn new skills.

By supporting our grant, you will be directly benefiting our wonderful students.

Our students come from diverse backgrounds. Some of our students' first languages include Spanish, Nuer, Filipino, Tongan, and Korean. We also have many economically disadvantaged students and wouldn't have access to books if it weren't for our school library.

My Project

We will be celebrating National Hobby Month by exploring different brain building pastimes at our school library in January 2022.

I am requesting four sewing machines.

In addition to low tech hobbies like origami and finger knitting, we would like to offer a taste of machine sewing. We will be partnering with a local quilt shop and hosting a weekly sewing club.

Students will be using these sewing machines to sew book bags to protect our library books from leaky water bottles and smooshy bananas.

Your donation will give kids a chance to develop a new hobby while creating a useful tool to keep our library books circulating in good condition:)
