Sewing Machine to Make Face Masks

Help me give my students a Singer Heavy Duty Sewing Machine and Elastic for Face Masks.

My Students

I have been inspired by my students' resilience and creativity during these strange times.

My students are supported by a loving community.

Their families are able to pick up lunch, school supplies, and home essentials from school five mornings each week.

Most of my student's learning comes from weekly packets that I create, then families pick up from school. Our school district was recently donated laptops and WiFi hotspots for all families, so online learning is becoming more accessible. Students are earning points for worksheets completed, and are looking forward to their end of year prizes to be delivered to their homes!

My Project

While we are still in quarantine and face-masks are recommended, I'd love to use this sewing machine and elastic to make face masks for students and families. I have a collection of fabric scraps that would be perfect for this project, and have seen several easy tutorials online.

When school is back in session, a new sewing machine will continue to be put to good use in our class!

Years ago, a teacher-friend gave me her adorable, pink 1967 Singer sewing machine. I brought it to school, taught the kids a few basics and we all made napkins. A couple kiddos really took off with it, and now have skills and ambitions that are beyond our sweet old machine's abilities. I love that this model is the same brand, but labeled as "heavy-duty" and sounds like it will keep up with the stuffies, dresses, pillows, scarves and other projects students want to try for years to come!
