Sewing Career Exploration: Fashion and Interior Design

Help me give my students Sewing machines. This will enable my students to be creative.

My Students

Our students come from a variety of backgrounds. They are eager to learn new life skills and love helping others. Students from all learning levels take Family and Consumer Science, the only school elective course with family as it's center. Gardener, Kansas is a small town with a big heart. My student's parents are very supportive and want their children to have as many opportunities as possible.

During the Middle School years, students in Family and Consumer Science are introduced to future careers.

Our project will give students exposure to careers that they may not have been introduced to in the past.

My Project

By teaching students to sew on machines, they will be able to explore careers in the industry related to sewing and designing. Students will learn basic sewing and construction.

Students will make items like draw string back packs that are practical and very functional for this age group.

They will be learning basic clothing repair. Lastly they will create a recycles/up cycles project with old textiles in their home.

Knowing how to sew is a life skill that will potentially help students in the future with clothing repair and alteration.
