This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my classroom are typical 21st-century students who gain the most knowledge and understanding from hands-on STEM activities. I want my students to leave knowing more than just spreadsheets, word documents, and clicking a mouse. I want them to be creators and inventors of the future.

We have experimented with Makey Makey, Squishy Circuits, MinecraftEdu, Ev3 Robotics, Ozobots, Scratch, Code, Raspberry Pi, 3Doodlers, MicroBits, Bloxels, Sphero Robots, and Stop Motion Video Creation.

For many of the students, school is the only place they have access to computers and the Internet and can learn about computer programming.

My Project

I'm requesting sewing machines and other sewing essentials for my students in order to teach them old skills that they can use in the 21st century.

My students have had most of the past two years to master using technology, and now is the time for them to learn hands on skills that they can use beyond the screens.

I plan to have the students learn how to sew by hand and also by sewing machine to create a class quilt with each block designed and created by individual students.
