My Students
My students come from a low income neighborhood and face struggles and challenges on a daily basis. Included in their daily challenges are often times financial struggles. All of my students receive a free breakfast and lunch every school day. My goal is to make the classroom a fun and welcoming environment where they can learn and grow regardless of what goes on outside of school. Even with what these kids face on a daily basis, they come to school with a positive outlook and a love for learning!
With the income restrictions placed on the families that I serve, many of my students do not have access to supplies to help them thrive.
My kids love to play, read, move, and everything else that your average kindergartner does in a day. I cannot control what goes on outside of my classroom, but I take pride in what goes on inside of it. I want to make sure that my students strive and that they have what they need to be successful and continue their love of learning.
My Project
My students are beginning to learn a love of reading. They have learned their alphabet and their sounds, now we are putting that knowledge together to read words, sentences, pages, and books. My students all receive 20 minutes a day to sit quietly and read books written on their reading levels. They are currently reading those books from a quiet corner of the room or their desk.
It is much nicer for my students to have a comfy spot to sit while they practice their reading.
These bean bag chairs would be an opportunity for them to get out of their desk and off of the floor, into a very comfortable spot to read their books. This would be a special place for them to settle down and settle into a good book.
