Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students come from a low-income area and come to school each day without their basic needs being met.

They have seen and have had to deal with things that most of us will never know.

Even with these circumstances, they come to school each day eager to learn and better themselves.

My middle school students are always looking for information and they are always eager to learn. Like most children, they learn best by being hands-on and love working together to enhance their learning. They are always trying to better themselves so they can become productive members of society. Having new materials for them to practice new skills and review past skills will not only be fun and engaging for them, but will help build their overall love of learning.

My Project

My middle school math students have recently received math textbooks for the first time. They have never had textbooks and need to learn how to use them and take notes from a textbook. With this requested Ipevo document camera I can project the textbook pages up on the board for the students to see and teach them the important information from the pages. With the document camera, I can also project note pages and worksheets so all students can see the information. This is the first time that many of my students have seen or used a math textbook. To see the pages up on the board will help them with identifying the parts of the page and where their focus should be.

My students learn better when they can use hands-on materials.

My students are behind on the math skills and many of them do not believe in themselves. These Learning Wrap-Ups Division and Multiplication Center hands-on activities can be used by students to self-check how they are doing. This can help increase their confidence in their abilities. Many of my students have been using flashcards and are getting bored with them. They are tired of always doing the same thing over and over. The Wrap-Ups give them another way to practice their basic math skills without just doing flashcards over and over. These are a more hands-on interactive way to do their work.
