Setting Students Up for Academic Success With a Special Space!
My students need a special table and chairs that are just right for them for small group work like guided reading, writing, math, and STEM as well as for individual instruction instead of the floor.
I am a teacher in a low-income Title I school. Many of my students have a Caribbean background where English is not their first language and part of their family is still living in another country. We start our day with breakfast in the classroom and many students receive free lunch. They are constantly faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Many do not have a stable home life and look to the classroom as a place of refuge.
Despite the many challenges they face, I constantly try to provide a loving, respectful, meaningful and fun learning experience for them.
Every day my students come in cheerful, ready to give hugs and are eager to learn. My students constantly work together as part of a learning community. I want to continue to provide an excellent education with as many resources as I can so they can continue to be life-long learners.
My Project
Please set my Kindergarteners up for success by helping to purchase this table and chairs. Currently, when I work with my students in a small group setting, we sit on the floor or the carpet. When we do work at a table, we are at a table which doesn't accommodate their small size because it's too tall and there isn't enough room to work with others.
With this table and chairs it will allow them to be in a more comfortable environment to allow rich learning without distractions.
The table will be a just right size for them. The students will be able to face me and not the others in the class. I will be able to easily interact with them across the table because every student will be within my reach. It will also give the students a special place in the classroom where they know they can get individualized attention to help them succeed based on their needs.
