My Project
In my high school geometry classroom, I am dedicated to fostering an environment where every student feels supported, valued, and ready to succeed. With a diverse group of students with IEPs, 504's, and many lower socioeconomic backgrounds, it is crucial that my classroom space reflects the needs of all learners. This project seeks to create a welcoming and inclusive environment that prioritizes mental health and equality, ensuring each student feels empowered to learn with the correct school supplies and a snack if they need it!
I am requesting items that will help transform our classroom into an inviting, calming, and welcoming space where students can focus, decompress, and thrive.
Many students do not arrive to class with the proper equipment, and many have a food insecure household in our high needs district. I am already paying for basic supplies like pencils, snacks, and crayons out of my own paycheck. It would be lovely if I had some assistance in purchasing these items! By creating a classroom that nurtures both mental well-being and academic growth, I am ensuring that students with various needs—whether academic, emotional, or sensory—have equal opportunities to succeed. Everyone is on equal footing when they have a pencil, food in their belly, and a ruler at the ready in geometry! The colored paper will also help to reinforce the content to be memorized for our state exam in June. Also, the candy prizes are certainly a motivator to get shy students to answer questions about the lesson when prompted!
