My Students

I always say first grade is the best grade and I think I can prove it. I am a lucky teacher of many wonderful students. My students have diverse needs and backgrounds. Some students come from wonderful loving homes and some families live within circumstances that make them lucky to make it to school each day.

One thing is for sure, students are eager to learn and they are always willing to try when I use engaging and hands-on methods and materials.

My heart is filled when students are engaged as I teach and I see their faces light up when they understand a concept. My students are willing but have some major deficits when it comes to working in group, small motor ability, and critical thinking.

My students are amazing individuals. They have happy, caring hearts and amazing potential. It's my privilege to teach them and my goal is to help my students develop into people who will know they are capable of achieving their dreams.

My Project

First grade is amazing. Students are eager to learn. Add in their fun and dynamic personalities and it is a dream job to have for sure. I am so fortunate to teach first grade. I have been teaching for nearly 20 years. Things have changed in education over the last 20 years but sadly my classroom furniture has not. We are "landlocked" with 5 tables for all of my students. There is no room for independent learning and social distancing for Covid-19 has been difficult. Students need the opportunity to move their desks based on what is best for them and the tasks they need to complete.

Please help my enthusiastic students have a learning environment that is up to date and can provide flexibility in the classroom.

These desks are just a start for our classroom. (I am trying to get 30 desks) It would be wonderful to be able to change seating arrangements at different times during the day while keeping their own area Coronavirus free. Students do well when they can collaborate but they also need time to think on their own without the distractions of others.

These students deserve the very best. Most of my students come from caring homes and are economically disadvantaged. It is my hope that by providing high quality instruction and a learning environment that is flexible I can give them and education that will set them on the path to future success.
