This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a school where most of my students come from families that are economically disadvantaged. Our school is considered high-poverty, and approximately 70% of our students receive free lunch.
I teach 15 students who come from so many different backgrounds, but who all have one thing in common: a desire to learn and play!
The students that come to me every day are silly, smart, and curious about the world around them! They take pride in everything they do, and there is nothing quite like experiencing the world through their eyes.
My Project
My students are 6 years old, so they are naturally full of curiosity and imagination! The materials I am requesting will be put into STEM Bins along with task cards for students to use during their down time, indoor recess, or as a center during the school day. They may be asked to build a structure from pipe cleaners and Dixie cups, or to use Legos to make a replica of the White House. Whatever the task, these STEM bins will help my students think and learn how to be little engineers!
The addition of these STEM Bins to my classroom will allow my students to learn through constructive play.
These children will be given an opportunity to have hands-on play while also learning about constructing stable structures, replicating previous structures, and generally how usual items can be used in unusual ways. I'm hoping to enhance the creativity and critical thinking skills of all students in my classroom.
