Set Up a New ESL Classroom

Help me give my students a classroom that is inviting and welcoming to them. They need to feel loved and welcome in this class. A lamp in their reading corner with books will be inviting.

My Project

I will be teaching a brand-new 4th and 5th grade ESL program in a completely empty classroom. When I walked in, there weren’t even pencils. I've managed to gather the basics on my own, but I need your help to make this room feel like a real home for learning. My wish list includes fidget toys to help with focus, books to build language skills, a calming floor lamp, white-out for writing, a classroom calendar for structure, and even a tabletop ice maker—because some of my students feel more comfortable learning with something cold in their hands or mouth.

These small extras will help transform a bare room into a welcoming, supportive space where learning can thrive.

My students come from low-income families and are learning not just English, but how to build relationships and confidence in a new environment. Some have just arrived in this country, while others are still finding their voice after years of feeling left out. I want them to walk into our classroom and feel seen, safe, and excited to learn. Your support will help me create a space where they feel like they belong.
