My classroom is made up of kids from Kinder-6th grade. My dream for my students is to be able to access the content that their same age peers are doing, grow in their learning, and build self esteem. We believe that if we set goals high we can fly!
My students have learning disabilities.
Some struggle more than others. We try not to focus on what we can't do, but how we can grow in these areas. Our school is a Title 1 school and most of my students eat both breakfast and lunch at school. As
a resource room teacher I'm not given the opportunity to get the same technology that the regular education teachers are using in their classroom.
Currently our school has adopted Project Lead the Way for Science. My students are required to participate in the content, however I don't have the resources (iPad and Apps) to support them in the resource room.
My Project
During Project Lead the Way time and independent learning times I would have the students be able to value their learning: observing, questions, seeking information, mastering concepts, creating, and deepening levels of understanding. Over time they will also make the connection that learning never ends. The iPad is an amazing learning tool providing unlimited resources, scaffolding, and flexibility. It is education streaming at a relatively low cost.
Students are interested in, motivated by, and engaged with technology. What is viewed as lifeless words and numbers within a textbook become real. Curriculum goals are supported with leveled resources ranging from basic understanding to creating.
The iPad is an effective tool to hold student's attention, embrace the learning process, support and spiral curriculum, and configure formative assessment.
With this donation I will be able to support my students in every subject area.
We will be able to learn and grow as creative little minds.
Once a child views themselves as a learner their self esteem grows and they will be more willing to take chances in other areas. Learning isn't just something we do in school it is a life long skill that we all need to have a chance at.
