Set the Stage for Success!
Those Spring-Summer Zoom sessions revealed a lot about my students. I realized that I would have to assist them in preparing an environment conducive to learning. They need guidelines, encouragement and they need materials. If they do not have pencils, paper, and books, surely they lack other classroom essentials.
My Project
A favorite education trailblazer, Maria Montessori wrote extensively on the importance of preparing a learning environment for optimal growth, success and Child development. I noticed during Zoom calls that many students did not have a desk to rest their Chromebook on or store their classroom materials. Most students were seated at coffee tables or on their beds.
The portable storage lap desk will provide a smooth writing area, a personal workspace, a portable creation station, and a place of storage for school supplies.
The desk can be folded and stored safely away when not in use. I think it is important for the student to have a personal space with their name on it. The desk set expectations (work, ingenuity, creativity...) and shifts home to an atmosphere of personal responsibility, ownership, and stewardship.
