My Students

There are many books that student refuse to read themselves. Maybe it is because the books are on an unfamiliar subject or seem too difficult. These students don't end up reading these books until they are read together as a class. Years of experience have shown me that the most unlikely child becomes turned on to a subject or to literacy in general because of these class read novels. Unfortunately we are lacking in class sets of novels to read.

My students are eager, bright, and hardworking.

They speak many languages from Spanish to Tagalog, Chinese to Samoan. Some students enter my class fully prepared for the rigor of middle school, while other students come far behind. All my students benefit from repeated and frequent exposure to engaging material. Whether it is written, spoken, or read, students learn something every time they sit down with a text. What they are is curious, and ready to engage with the world!

My Project

The books I am requesting will form a major part of our curriculum. The class sets of novels that are currently at our school are at least 20 years old if not more. Rarely in the sets we currently have are there enough so that students don't have to share. The class set that you are providing will allow each student to read their own book. It is important that students get a chance to read many different genres, because each student's interest is piqued by something different. Literacy can be very dry when it is all rote, and boring instruction is a straight path to burn out. This particular book, "The BFG" by Roald Dahl is a wonderful homage to pure imagination. It has stood the test of time inspiring many, such as Tim Burton. With your support it will inspire one more generation of students.

Your donation will have an immediate impact on our students.

It has been a long time since our students have the chance to use new books or read best selling authors in class. Please consider donating and allowing our students to be exposed to the imagination of Roald Dahl.
