My Project
These novels are specifically for my Spanish 2 students, meaning it is a novice class. In the novice level, we focus on listening and reading. Right now, we only been able to read short stories because we have not had the funding to purchase class sets. Therefore, instead of the students reading one to two page stories that are quick and easily forgotten. These novels will provide the students with the opportunity to become invested in a story and track characters. Moreover, the markers are for us to be able to extend the book with games and activities that we use with our whiteboards, also we are short whiteboards to have a class set.
On that note, the goal of this project is to make my students enjoy reading in Spanish.
If asked, most of my students would say they do not enjoy reading. The struggle to keep them off their phone is real and present. My goal is that this book would help keep them invested and actually wanting to read because they want to know what happens next with the characters they've grown to love. In fact, we were able to preview the first chapter of this book, and the students were intrigued.
For this reason, I chose this book of Superburguesas by Mike Peto because my students love crazy, comedic stories. They are a fun, high-energy class of mainly freshmen and sophomores. They need something light and fun to motivate them in class. Many of them come to class weighed down with homework from other classes. Therefore, this is a good place to start and empower them to feel like they are able to read, understand, and enjoy a book in Spanish.
