This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

At our high school, theatre is a reviving program. We are in an expansion stage and my students need all the support can muster to help them learn in this growing phase. We are trying to establish CTE pathways both in performance and in production skills. I have a wide range of students in both theatre class as well as the after school program, which strives to provide live theatre to the whole of our isolated community.

The students most directly impacted by this program are those interested in technical theatre, but every theatre student will benefit by having these tools available!

Students will benefit from the chance to expand their skills in drafting, designing sets, and crafting scale models of performance spaces. They are a hard working group that are excited about possibilities theatre at a new artistic level.

My Project

This project will give students access to the professional tools used in designing, drawing, and building models of their imagined set designs to give students hands-on experience that translates into career skills.

These will combine with several recently donated items, most notably, an adjustable drafting table, and allow students to use the tools that professional designers use.

They will have hands-on projects both in designing a set, but also the tools needed to make precise scale models of those sets.

Theatre isn't just a performing arts elective. It is also a subject area where students can develop Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) skills and it is a part of three different Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways in Arts, Media, and Entertainment. For my theatre students, building durable box models of theatre stages and white models of sets is an important part of the theoretical design projects undertaken in their classes.
