Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students love the community garden that we have started at school, but we would like to make it better. They have learned through the Earth Day community service activities at school all about composting, vertical gardening and the variety of things we can grow.
We are asking for a composter and new growing pots to add to our ongoing community service garden project at school.
We have studied in Biology the impact of where our food comes from and the distances it travels. Knowing they could grow some of the same things in our community garden blew their minds. It also changed the way they see food and their ability to change their community.
They are using this garden as a way to grow food to donate to the culinary department and the local food pantry to feed people in our community as well as making delicious meals for the students in school.
