This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom is extremely diverse, in so many ways! I do work at a low income, racially diverse urban high school (one of the largest in Illinois!). My students come from all different backgrounds and bring a wealth of interesting diversity to my classes.
Having a diverse classroom is welcome, but also challenging!
I am still- even after 25 years in the classroom!- learning how to best serve my students. They are so awesome, I want to make sure that every lesson and opportunity presented to them is of the highest quality!
My Project
Even though I am a seasoned teacher, I am still improving my knowledge of my students every day. I am taking two courses ONLINE: "A Framework for Understanding Poverty" and "Strategies for Reaching At-Risk Students in the High School Setting."
One thing is for certain: a good teacher can never know their students TOO well!
That's why I am hoping to build my own knowledge so I can continue to aid my students in the best way possible. These classes will help me build historical knowledge and practical application to my high school ELA classes.
