Service Learning Project!

My students need 24 crates to put together learning kits for each classroom at our school. My class will be making games, flash cards and collecting books for each classroom at our school.

My Students

I teach third grade and am always looking for project ideas to help them become involved in our school. They are very creative and willing to work hard to complete big projects.

My students have decided to create learning kits for each of our 24 teachers.

They would be given to them to use before school and at the end of the day. When the first bell rings students sit in the hallway and wait for the bell to ring to go in to their classrooms. At the end of the day students have to wait patiently for the bell to ring as well. My students tried adding up the total number of minutes students are wasting just sitting there, not learning. If we put together a learning kit with books to read and flashcards to study then students would learn while they are waiting.

Most of my students have parents that work two jobs, work nights, or work weekends and long hours. The majority of my students get free or reduced lunch and their families struggle to make ends meet. But, they are constantly wanting to help others less fortunate then

My Project

My students are asking for 24 crates! They want to have something that will last many years The crates will help us tremendously because we need a special place to put our learning kit supplies! My third graders are creating their own learning kits for each classroom. In the kits they want to include books, flashcards, and games to help them learn while they are waiting for the bell to ring before school and after school. This will help build my students confidence and provide them with the most important part of their project. They are very excited about this project and can't wait to get started making flashcards and games and collecting books!
