My Students
My students come from diverse backgrounds and have a deep concern for the well-being of others! They are constantly observing the emotions of the classmates around them and trying to encourage those that seem down. They know how to reach out with kind words and hugs. They are also thoughtful artists and wordsmiths - writing thoughtful notes or sketching funny drawings to cheer each other up! They are craving for other ways to express their love and care and I am wanting to feed that fire as fast as possible!
My Project
In our current society it is completely normal to see others (or to be personally) glued to phones or computer screens and scroll through social media, liking or sharing motivational posts and videos. However it is rare that a single like makes an impact for good. Using these looms in my after school service learning club will enable students to create personalized hats for babies born in local hospitals. This can show them how their actions can change and improve the world positively, one stitch at a time! It will inspire them to reach outside of themselves and learn skills that they can use throughout their lifetime.
