My Students

Each morning, I ask my kindergarten students to give me an affirmation. They respond, "I'm alive, I'm awake and I feel great" or "I feel good, I feel fine. I feel this way all the time." It's not important that they know the meaning of "affirmation", but it sets the soul on fire ready to learn.

My students come from a high needs community and are those that receive breakfast and lunch each day.

Some come to class with a PE uniform, but many just put together a pair of shorts, a t-shirt and sneakers. They all come for and receive the attention we all desired as a child-SAFETY-SECURITY-CARING. Despite what issues and concerns face the students outside of the school building, they really want to belong and participate.

My Project

The volleyball program over the last four years has truly blossomed! Just last year, the boys program began and had over 20 boys grades 5th through 8th excited to compete. The materials will continue to secure quality equipment for a growing and quality driven academic, physical, interscholastic, competitive volleyball program. This year, after four years in development, the girls 5th & 6th grade competitive program had 18 girls and the 7th & 8th grade team had 12 girls. Each team posted their best record of 5 wins and 1 loss!

Donations to this project will continue to strengthen the commitment to excellence in dynamic physical education curricula.

I have begun to build a "volleyball factory" with instruction beginning in Kindergarten. I begin with balloons (primary ages), then to punch balls (grade 2-5), to VB training balls (grades 3-8), and finally volleyballs (grades 4-8). This activity keeps boys and girls off the tough, drug and gang infected streets. The professionals that assist are dedicated.
