This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember sitting down with a good book on a rainy day as a child? What about now? What about reading with your grandparents or parents?
My children are longing for this type of experience but with book prices soaring, and the economy lagging behind, that money is better spent on bills and food.
Therefore, they come to school eager to soak up knowledge and rise to any challenge I may place in front of them. They are inquisitive and brave and have taught me more than they realize. They truly are a blessing!
My Project
Reading can be a challenge when you aren't excited about what you are reading. One way to combat this challenge is to give them familiar characters to look forward to reading about! My students love series books such as Henry and Mudge, Ivy and Bean, and Geronimo Stilton.
Help me develop a passion for reading by providing my students with quality series books that will have them begging for more reading time!
Student choice can be a powerful tool, and they have specifically requested many of the books selected for this project.
These books will be used in our classroom library for our daily independent and guided-reading time. Students have assigned levels that are designed to help them grow as readers. They also have the opportunity to share about books they particularly enjoyed. Students are more likely to read books that are recommended by their peers than their teacher.
With your help, we can create a classroom of students who are excited about and value reading!
