This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My seventh grade students - or as I refer to them as "my kids"- are funny, curious, and insightful leaders. Something happens or someone says something daily that truly brings joy into the room. I cannot imagine a better place to be a learner...and I am talking about me! They teach me something new all the time!

Because I am always saying "Readers are leaders," I want to focus on connecting each student with a book that ignites their passion for reading!

Physically opening a book, turning the page, smelling ink on paper, and being transported to another place and time...that is a human experience that no tech or tablet can replace. While some kids are already avid readers when they walk in the door, my goal is for every child to become one. I believe revitalizing our classroom library with a dozen or so spectacular series and boxed sets will connect 150 different students with a captivating plot that goes deep. I can't wait to see them create literary circles in which they can discuss, analyze, and ponder the big ideas (and details that develop them) and watch the fire for reading catch!

My Project

It is wonderful to connect a student with a good book! Now, take that book and make it great, add several more in the series, and make them fall in love with reading! That is what it is all about! I need to seriously upgrade my classroom library and want to focus on building it around several spectacular series that have captivated myself, my own children, and former students.

I want my kids to feel, smell, and touch a book while it magically pulls them into a faroff land, futuristic world, or realistic dilemma!

I want them to wonder about the characters long after they are done reading because they have become part of their world.
