I teach in the library of a busy PreK-8 school with over 1,000 students in New York City. This is the first year the school library has been reopened after several years of closure during the pandemic. I've been working to try and inventory and organize the books that remained in the library during its closure, as well as order new materials to replace items that may have been checked out but not returned when school was reopened after being virtual.
I get frequent student requests for two of today's most popular kids' fiction series: Dogman and Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
Many of these titles were missing from the library when it reopened, and although I did order one new set of each series for this year the current supply can't keep up with the demand in the library when so many students are interested in these books. They appeal to a wide range of reading abilities, and the illustrations can also help English language learners and reluctant readers become engaged with the stories. And since these are series books, once students try and enjoy one book in the series they often want to read even more titles featuring these favorite characters. That is why for this project I am asking for additional copies of books in the Dogman and Wimpy Kid series, so more students can borrow and enjoy reading these popular books from their school library.
