In a small town in rural Missouri, 60 eleven-year-olds enter my ELA classroom and step into a different world. They don't come in just to read and write. They come into my classroom to experience a world of diving into the many page-turning classics and writing their own stories that will hopefully encourage them to become future authors. Students come into my class with thought-provoking ideas about the stories they've read and the stories they want to write.
My sixth graders are kind, creative, full of personality and have the biggest hearts.
They amaze me every day through their work ethic, generosity, and manners. You know you live in a wonderful town full of great parents when kids still know how to say "please" and "thank you." We are blessed to be at a school where teachers will do whatever it takes to see a child not only succeed, but more importantly, feel loved.
My Project
Raise your hand if you love books! I love books! Most of my 6th graders love books! If students come to me and confess they aren't big on reading or they don't like books, I feel they just haven't found the right book yet. As an ELA teacher, I try to instill that enjoyment factor that may have not been there before. I do whatever I can to help each and every student find something they love to read.
My students love books that are a part of a series!
These books really capture their attention and they usually can't wait to read the next book. I love hearing the conversations that revolve around these books. This also helps students to set goals not only for themselves, but also to help cheer on fellow peers to try and finish a series.
My classroom library is in desperate need to add more book series. This collection will give my students several options to choose from and help inspire them to enjoy reading.
