This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Many of our students in TK–5th grade have sensory needs that impact their ability to focus, stay calm, and participate in school activities. As the occupational therapist, I support students with mild to severe disabilities by providing sensory tools that help them regulate their bodies and emotions throughout the day.

Items like noise-reducing headphones, wiggle cushions, weighted lap pads, fidgets, and visual timers allow students to feel safe, calm, and ready to learn.

These tools help reduce sensory overload, improve attention, and support smoother transitions. When students can access the right sensory supports, they are better able to participate in classroom routines, build independence, and connect with peers.

These small but powerful tools make a big difference—giving students the chance to feel confident, stay engaged, and thrive at school.
