This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach an incredible group of TK–2 students with moderate to severe autism. My students are full of joy, curiosity, and determination. They each have unique sensory needs and learning styles that require a classroom environment designed to help them feel safe, regulated, and ready to learn. I love how resilient, creative, and expressive they are especially when given the tools and support they need to thrive.

This project will help me create a more inclusive, responsive, and calming classroom environment.

Flexible seating options and textured mats will allow students to move, wiggle, and self-regulate while learning. A sensory table and fidgets will provide meaningful sensory input, helping students stay focused and reduce anxiety. The laminating machine and sheets will allow me to create durable, individualized visuals and communication supports, while the noise-canceling headphones will help reduce overwhelming auditory input and improve concentration.

Each of these resources will help my students feel more comfortable, engaged, and empowered in their learning journey. With your help, we can build a classroom that truly supports every learner’s needs.
