Help me give my students fun toys and activities while they are in our student support center. The student support center is a space available to students who are dysregulated or in any distress.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I want to prepare for next school year by having more enrichment activities available to students that come to the Student Support Center.
The Student Support Center is a space that is available to all 980 students at Los Angeles High School. The students that are typically in the space are ones that are struggling with self-regulation or managing stressors from anxiety, interactions with peers, and oftentimes trauma response. The goal of the space is to get students back to baseline and on their way to finish their school day. When they are here there is a licensed therapist, counselor, and psychologist who can check in, and while talk therapy is great, I find that setting up students with an activity can really make a difference in getting them in a different mental state.
I have set up students to make slime with glue and activator, a kinetic sandbox, legos, and coloring their response is always "yes I want to do it." I also want to offer things like fidget toys and sketchbooks that students get to keep. I gave many sketchbooks away during my last group funded through Donors Choose and the students were so excited and grateful. It's important that I give them things to take home so that they continue to have access to hobbies like journaling and sketching at any time they are not in school.
