Sensory Tools For Self Regulation

My Project

I am an occupational therapist that supports the self-contained Autism classrooms at our elementary school. Many of my students on the Autism spectrum experience challenges in sensory processing such as: sensitivity to loud noises, chewing on or eating inedible materials, and seeking deep pressure. These challenges often lead to unsafe behaviors and make it difficult for students to concentrate on learning.

With access to appropriate sensory tools in the classroom such as noise cancelling headphones, chewy necklaces and compression vests, my students can safely regulate their bodies and emotions and be ready to learn.
