This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The students and families at PS 1 are very excited for their new STEAM lab! This new space will allow our students and families to explore science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics through project-based learning. Our students are leaders in their learning and engage in the Engineering Design Process to help them answer their questions about the world! Our students are multilingual learners looking to make an impact on the world as Global Citizens. The STEAM lab is open to all students in Pre-K through Grade 5. In the STEAM lab, we celebrate mistakes because we know that when we do hard things, our brains grow!
We want our STEAM lab to be an inclusive and equitable space.
The STEAM lab is open to all students including those with a variety of disabilities and sensory needs. These materials will help meet those sensory needs and give us the ability to create a safe space for learners who are feeling overwhelmed as they explore the world through STEAM. The wobble cushions, calm strips, kick bands, and fidgets will provide access to students who need to move as they learn, listen, and explore. The liquid mats, cushions, and rocker will provide a safe space for learners who are navigating big emotions. In the STEAM lab, we all get what we need to be successful and we know we don't all need the same things! The STEAM lab is a space for all learners and we celebrate our diversity!
