Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
It is important for my special education students to have sensory and occupational therapy tools to meet their sensory input and fine motor needs throughout their learning experience. These versatile tools will help them build academic, self-regulation, and motor skills, often at the same time.
Tools like Theraputty build fine motor strength to help with writing while providing sensory input at the same time, and the Sensory Body Sox build large motor skills while providing sensory sensory input.
The Nuts About Counting and See-Through Counting Tubes will help students practice counting with one-to-one correspondence while building their fine motor skills.
These materials will help students develop literacy, numeracy, fine motor, and self-regulation skills they need to become more independent and will help them stay engaged throughout the learning process. Students with significant disabilities need frequent, consistent, and repetitive practice to develop basic literacy and numeracy skills, and hands on learning tools like the magnetic letters will help them get that repeated practice while still promoting engagement through a variety of materials.
Calming tools like the sensory timer and kinetic sand will facilitate development of self-soothing skills such as taking a break when overwhelmed.
These tools will help my special education students develop the skills they need to become well-rounded and independent. Thank you so much for your help!
