This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach a moderate special education preschool class. My students are 3-5 years old and super adorable. They all have the innate desire to form meaningful relationships and need a little boost to help them get there. Also, to keep them engaged, novelty is key. Students need to have a rotation of materials to keep things fresh.
The students that I work are developing the skills that form the foundation to help them build meaningful relationships with their peers.
My students need help learning how to do the following things: wait their turn, share toys, pass items to a friend, have appropriate physical contact with peers, use play language such as "my turn" and "your turn".
My Project
My preschool students are all learning how to increase their attention spans in preparation for the demands of elementary school. With our class size increasing, students are having to wait a significant amount of time for their turn at circle time. This can potentially lead to behavioral challenges and I want to provide an outlet for students so that they can remain engaged.
Sensory fidget toys that students can hold will help students remain in the area for group activities and are very effective for helping students to wait their turn to engage in activities at circle.
Please help me give my students exciting sensory fidgets including glitter wands, spiky rings, stretchy balls, and monkey strings. They will really love to explore them during free play and to use them as supports throughout their school day.
