Sensory Supports for Engaging Determined Learners

Help me give my students the sensory supports they need to regulate and engage in learning! The weighted pillows, blanket, animals, and light and vibration toys are especially needed. My students really thrive and engage with these kinds of tools.

My Project

My students are learning to speak and communicate in a way that works for their abilities. They seek sensory input to feel comfortable enough to engage in learning. We have found things that work, and lack enough of them.

My students love songs, dancing, and other ways to get proprioceptive input while they learn and participate.

The scarves will be used to dance and draw our letters during letter songs. The vibrating pillows will be sat on, for focus at morning meeting and for calming. voice buttons will be used to continue teaching vocalizations for communication of learning and needs. We are always running out of Velcro and batteries for our resources, so those are included as well.

We use centers to individually maximize learning and hands-on opportunities to engage. For example, The play dough and stamps will be used to practice letters, as our fine motor skills have yet to develop, and some of my students have disabilities that pose a challenge for writing with utensils. These tools will be utilized every day!
