Our school is a Title one school that supports students of all needs, involving EL, RR and ERR needs. My extended resource classroom includes students whose needs are severe enough to need all day assistance such as those with Autism and Down Syndrome.. My students struggle with day to day life skills as well as basic communication needs. Their needs range from bathroom assistance to severe sensory needs. Sensory and adapted instruction materials will benefit them by supporting them where they are at developmentally and providing multiple opportunities to practice skills.
My Project
Sensory is a all day activity for students with sever special needs. They need lots of sensory input to generalize skills that range from life skills (bathroom, eating, transitioning) to academics. By my students multiple methods of sensory input through flexible seating and adapted tools, then they will be able to absorb more information than they would be without out it.
These tools allow for assistance in attending to tasks, focusing and completing tasks.
Sensory exploration items they will learn regulation skills, communication and social skills. In addition to sensory input, these items also provide multiple methods to show what they are learning and learn in different ways.
