My Project
I am an Occupational Therapist working in a school with students with autism, speech/ language impairments, learning disabilities, and intellectual disabilities. I work with kindergarteners through 5th graders that are receiving Occupational Therapy services as part of their individualized education plans. Many of our students have difficulty regulating themselves due to underlying sensory processing delays and/or behavioral difficulties. Our students are loving, creative, enthusiastic, and come from a diverse background. Our students benefit from multi-sensory supports and learn best through hands-on experiences. Our students love school and value the connections that they have with others.
Our students will benefit significantly from sensory-based equipment such as a space-saver swing, weighted lap pad, chewy toys and other sensory tools.
Access to these equipment will help our students manage sensory needs, improve attention, improve self-regulation, help develop gross motor skills, and promote learning overall.
