This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am in my 6th year of teaching and am teaching Special Education at a new school in Salt Lake City. My students have mild and moderate disabilities, including autism and sensory disorders, that impact their academics and some of my students have some severe behaviors that impede their ability to learn in the general education classroom.

My students need items in our classroom that help them decompress and de-escalate when they are reaching their threshold or when they are triggered by things out of their control in their environment.

My Project

My students love anything that helps them explore the world around them using their senses. The supplies and materials used in this project will help my students explore multiple senses. For example, the light table allows students to explore through sight (lights) and touch (sensory beads and materials). The foam bead putty, the foaming finger paints and the blue play-dough allow creations and learning using creativity and their sense of touch. Some of my students could use help with their balance and love to feel with their feet, so the sensory stones that you place on the carpet can help with all of these senses!
