Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am currently teaching a small group K-3 class at a Title I school in the state of NM. I am a SPED teacher who serves students with learning disabilities in reading, writing, math, social/emotional and behavior.

My students are behind in their abilities and are struggling with their studies at their young ages of 5-9.

My students are eager to learn and need more tools to help them be successful in the general education classroom and in their grade level curriculum.

My Project

These sensory items will be used during centers with various items such as plastic letters or numbers or sight words. For example, they will be buried in the sensory item and they will practice letter naming, letter recognition as well as sounds.

These sensory tools also help students with disabilities to calm down as well as focus on the task they are trying to perform.

It's an alternative way of learning the skills that will help them become readers.

Many of my students have a narrow attention span and I have to think of creative ways to teach them what they need to learn in order to be successful in the classroom environment.
