Help me give my students who struggle with sensory and emotional needs the tools that will allow them to face the ongoing demanding curriculum to become more independent and being able to feel triumphant.
My fourth and fifth graders are amazing students who have a variety of disabilities. They are wanting to do well in school but lack having specific tools and knowledge needed in order to be successful throughout the school environment.
As academic demand increases, my students are expected to sit longer and be able to control their emotions when faced with frustrations or lack of understanding.
My particular students need tools and strategies in order to grow and participate without always having to rely on others to navigate not only the academic demand but also how to regulate their own bodies.
My Project
My specific students struggle not only academically but with extreme sensory issues that hinder their abilities to successfully access the ongoing demanding curriculum. The items that I have requested will give my students a variety of tools that they can use in my classroom as well as throughout the school environment.
The variety of chairs I selected will enable my students to take them around to different classrooms which will allow them to focus more during long periods of sitting or during high stressful academic tasks.
The fidgets will also allow them to use them throughout the school environment which will help cut down on disruptive behaviors and accomplish more work. The books I requested will allow me to create lessons that will focus on positive ways to control their high-energy behaviors more productively throughout their school environment.
