This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students have shown so much growth as I've introduced more and more multi-sensory experiences into the classroom. However, our sand trays are getting worn out after years of use. Additionally, some students aren't super thrilled about touching sand.
These items would not only help replace our materials that are getting out of date, but would also give my students an alternative material to practice their spelling.
When teaching a new concept my students write letter sounds into a sensory material to help encode that sound into multiple areas of the brain. Typically I use sand trays, shaving cream, or carpet squares. The gel mats would be a great alternative to my most sensory sensitive students.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
