Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is an early learning center, serving children from pre-k through first grade. We are a Title I school in Houston, Texas, in which all of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. The majority of our students come from low-income households and many of the children are learning English. One thing that makes our school special is that we are a fully inclusive setting, where all students feel welcome, safe, and are able to live up to their fullest potential. Students in special education, that would typically be served in a self-contained setting, are provided extra support to be fully included in the general education classrooms. It is truly amazing to see how much all of our students are able to learn from each other on our campus.

At the end of the day, our goal is for each of our students to go home empowered and excited to continue learning!

My Project

My students are in need of more materials for their sensory room. Currently, the sensory room has tools to help students calm their body, but we are in need of more tools to be able to target different sensory needs.

In pre-k, we have a lot of students who have never been to school before and have not yet learned how to regulate their bodies.

We are hoping to add more engaging items to help our students. We would love a privacy cube for students to be able to go into to be able to calm their bodies more quickly and be able to return to their classroom ready goto learn! We would also like to incorporate the balancing rocks and a sit and spin for more vestibular input.

We are also in need of gorilla glue and gorilla tape to fix some of our already well love sensory items like our pea pod!
