Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Middle school can be a time of intense change and heightened emotions. When emergencies strike, the stress and uncertainty can overwhelm even the most resilient students. Sensory items offer a vital tool for self-regulation during these challenging times. With the assistance of stress balls, mini lava globes, and breathing balls, students can have a focal point and a sense of control through these fidget/sensory items.
By incorporating sensory tools into emergency preparedness, we can empower middle school students to better manage stress, regulate their emotions, and stay safe.
Sensory input can offer a discreet way for students to cope with overwhelming emotions without drawing unwanted attention when emotions are disregulated. Tactile items such as stress balls or textured objects can provide grounding and help students channel nervous energy. Middle school students have diverse sensory needs. Providing a variety of items allows them to choose what might work best for them.
