Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My position will be changing for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year. I was formerly teaching high level students on the spectrum, but will now be teaching more intensive students on the spectrum for the upcoming school year. My new students will require more hands on learning materials which provide a multi sensory approach to learning. I am slotted to have 12 students for the upcoming school year.
My students are all at different levels academically and require their learning materials to be modified in order to reach them at their current level of functioning.
My students respond best to step by step instruction, scaffolding, pacing guides, and a rich variety of visuals to support their learning. My students often have difficulties with fine motor skills and require both learning and play materials, which allow them to practice the necessary fine motor skills to improve their muscle tone, strength, and flexibility to increase better writing, cutting, coloring, and overall improved fine motor skills.
It is my desire to put in the effort to try to attain the necessary resources to provide appropriate curriculum materials that focus on my students' individualized needs for successful learning.
My Project
The Fidget toys will allow students to engage in calming activities which will help them to refocus and redirect. The noise cancelling headphones will be used with a student who has some sensory intolerances to loud noises. The headphones will help to reduce the sound which will in turn allow him to participate in all class lessons. The puzzles will be helpful in allowing students to engage in fine motor development skills and allow for practice with matching like objects.
