My Project

Creating a sensory room at our school would provide a calm, safe, and therapeutic environment where students can regroup, self-regulate, and refocus. Our school serves a low-income community, and many of our students face daily challenges that can lead to sensory overload, affecting their ability to focus and learn effectively. For these students, a sensory room would be a critical resource in managing the stresses and demands of the school day.

A sensory room is designed with specialized equipment and materials that engage students’ senses in a controlled way.

Items like soft lighting, tactile toys, noise-canceling headphones, and even bubble tubes can help students regulate their sensory needs, giving them a moment of calm to recenter and return to class ready to learn. For students with sensory processing disorders, ADHD, autism, or emotional and behavioral challenges, access to a sensory room can significantly improve both academic and social outcomes.

Our school, however, has limited resources. Basic school supplies are a continual need, and specialized items for a sensory room, such as textured walls, calming music devices, and weighted blankets, are out of reach. With your help, we can transform an ordinary room into a space filled with sensory tools that foster a sense of security and support for these students.

A sensory room can be the difference between a student feeling overwhelmed and disengaged and feeling calm and ready to participate. Your donation, no matter the amount, would make an immediate and lasting impact on the lives of our students, helping to create a learning environment that supports every child's unique needs.
