This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I absolutely love how unique, resilient, and caring my students are. Every day, they show up with big hearts, strong personalities, and an eagerness to grow—even when the world feels overwhelming. Many of my students have sensory needs, emotional challenges, or difficulty with focus, and yet they continue to try their best. Their strength and creativity inspire me.

The sensory room I’m building is meant to be a safe space where students can calm down, re-center, or even energize when they’re feeling overwhelmed or dysregulated.

It’s a space that supports their sensory needs while encouraging self-regulation, emotional control, and focus.

One item I’m incredibly excited to include is the STEMBee 10-Pack Numbered Liquid Sensory Tiles. These colorful, squishy floor mats are filled with liquid that moves as students step, press, or glide across them. They’re not just visually stimulating—they’re also calming and grounding for students who need tactile or movement-based sensory input. The numbered design opens the door for incorporating movement breaks with learning, such as number recognition, counting, and simple math games.

These tiles will help transform our sensory space into an interactive and dynamic environment where students can engage their minds and bodies in healthy, productive ways. Whether used for a calming walk, a break from overstimulation, or an engaging movement activity, these mats will meet a wide range of student needs and help them return to learning focused and ready.
