This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a special education teacher, I see so many students who struggle to regulate their emotions during the day. Some students may need a space to run, jump, and crash while other students may need a dark or quiet corner to decompress.

After seeing so many students struggle with self-regulation, and not having a well-equipped room to help them, it is my hope to slowly build a space for these students with all the tools.

While our school has created an empty room for a Sensory Room, the room itself lacks sensory tools and appeal and does not meet the needs of our students.

Our Sensory Room will meet the many different needs of our students. Some students need to burn energy by using the swing, balance board, or tiles. While others need a quiet space for calming by utilizing the breathing buddies, tent, and sock pockets.

Thank you for taking a moment to read about our project. It is my hope that with your help we will have a well-equipped, safe space for our students to come to when they need a place to regulate their emotions appropriately and safely.
