Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The sensory room will include a flexible set of tools to help students renew concentration, calm down, or re-energize for better learning results. My goal for this sensory room is for students to be able to self-soothe when they need to regulate their emotions and give them opportunities to de-escalate from maladaptive behaviors. We have a wide variety of diversity and unique needs on our campus with many students who have been diagnosed with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Emotional Disturbance Disorder.

Research indicates that movement has a positive effect on learning.

Children with the ability to engage in self-regulation and self-determination are more successful in the classroom and in life.
